What Is Kylie Jenner’s Net Worth?

Kylie Jenner

The Kar-Jenner family is loaded thanks to their business prowess (and fierce momager, Kris Jenner.) Kim Kardashian said it best when she lamented that it “seems like nobody wants to work these days,” but these sisters never have a day off. And that’s why the topic of Kylie Jenner’s net worth is so intriguing.

But it doesn’t come without scandal. The Kardashian-Jenner clan has their fair share of haters, almost as many as they do fans. And when Kylie Jenner made Forbes’ list of billionaires, heads quickly turned.

First, it was surprising. Not even Kim Kardashian, arguably the most famous of the sisters, had reached this milestone yet. And Kylie, founder of Kylie Cosmetics and the viral Lip Kit, found herself on the coveted list in 2019.

But Kylie didn’t last long on the billionaire list. By June 2020, Forbes released an expose on the Jenner family’s attempts at getting Kylie on that list…and how she wasn’t really a billionaire after all. Shocking!

If you’re wondering what Kylie Jenner’s net worth actually is…so are we. So let’s dive into her controversial funds.

Kylie Cosmetics began in 2015 when Kylie’s lips were all the rage. It was peak King Kylie Era, where she slayed the Tumblr, artsy aesthetic and we all instantly followed suit.

The Lip Kits were created in response to accusations that Jenner was getting lip filler, which we now know is the truth. But they turned scandal into gold — as the Kar-Jenner’s do. So, the Kylie Lip Kit was born.

And the Lip Kit was so successful it spawned an entire cosmetics line. They sold out within seconds of going live, everyone I knew had a Kylie Lip Kit. I bought a crazy shade just to say I owned it.

In no time Jenner began selling blushes, bronzers, eyeshadows, and more under Kylie Cosmetics. And within years it became a full-fledged beauty brand.

By 2019 — four short years after the company’s inception — Jenner sold 51% of her company to beauty conglomerate, Coty, in a deal valued at $1.2 billion

But the drama starts after hitting that elusive spot on Forbes list. Once Forbes cemented Kylie Jenner as a rising billionaire, they further investigated the  Coty deal and Kylie’s net worth.

The truth? Jenner’s brand was not nearly as profitable as the family made it seem. It didn’t sell as well, it wasn’t earning as much money, and it wasn’t the “It Girl” brand we thought. In fact, it wasn’t even billionaire status.

In their expose, Forbes writes:

The sale of her company earned Kylie a solid $340 million, but it wasn’t enough to make Jenner the self-reported billionaire she claimed she was.

Well, the obvious problem is that it wasn’t true. When Forbes asked to see tax returns, they entered Kris Jenner’s estate to find fudged tax returns. Not only that, but they also questioned how the company went from $0 in sales to $300 million in a single year.

That would mean that Kylie made $250 million in sales in the first year alone…Again, probably not true.

But what was also upsetting is the title “self-made” billionaire printed alongside Jenner’s picture on Forbes. Was she really self-made? Or was she merely a product of Kris Jenner’s hard work and Kim Kardashian’s allure?

Now, we know that it’s a mix of both. Sure, she’s a nepo baby in her own right whose success weighed upon Kris Jenner’s drive. But the public can’t help but follow her.

The numbers that Coty presented when framing the deal regarding Kylie Cosmetics’ sales were also untrue. Forbes reports,

It brings up a solid question: which numbers are correct? How much is Kylie Jenner truly making?

Because Kylie Cosmetics is not a lucrative business, and with her pop-up satellite brands, clothing company Khy, and vodka seltzer line Sprinter, it’s tough to believe that Kylie’s businesses are actually prospering.

And now that we know the Jenners have a hand in the media reports regarding numbers, we remain wary when reading such reports. Sure, People says that Khy did $1 million in sales in one hour, but we can’t find much evidence about that.

In similar news, Sprinter Vodka Soda also reported a great turnaround in sales. According to a press release from BEVNET.com

But don’t worry, Kylie is still megarich. And with another season of The Kardashians coming to Hulu, expect to see a lot more of her in the future…maybe with a few more brands.

Her actual net worth is still just shy of a billion dollars ($900 million), according to Forbes. This is thanks to the Coty deal and her other earnings from her various brands. While it’s still an impressive amount, it certainly isn’t the net worth she claimed.
